Nervesta (Ashe) Tankersley

Nervesta "Vesta" Tankersley was born January 4, 1934 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Arthur and Geneva Ashe.  She spent the majority of her life a resident of Washington County. Vesta was a devoted charter member of the First Baptist Church in Pekin.  She retired from Kimball Office Furniture after 30+ years of service, but her greatest accomplishment by far was loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Vesta passed with peace and grace on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in Salem.  She was preceded in death by her sons: Dennis and Tommy, daughter: Becky Baker, her parents, six sisters and one brother.

She is survived by a son: Steve Tankersley of Pekin and two daughters: Tina Campbell of Salem and Susan Martin of Massillion, Ohio.  And her extended family of Karen Maudlin, Cecil Hortenberry Jr., Tim Hortenberry and Kathy Goff.  Vesta was the matriarch of a large family and was blessed with 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren...and counting.

Vesta was known for her great sense of humor and friendly nature.  She was an amazing cook and her kitchen was always open to all.  Vesta was a true example of selflessness and humbleness; always putting others before herself.  All that had the pleasure of knowing this beautiful soul would best describe he simply as the "heart of the home".

Vesta will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery on Friday Marth 29th.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday March 28th at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 29th at 11 am at the First Baptist Church of Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church.
