James Eugene "Jim" Tomes, age 91 of Pekin, Indiana passed away Tuesday,
January 9, 2024, in his residence.
Born December 20, 1932 in Casey Hallow, near Pekin, Indiana, he was the
son of the late James Orien Tomes and Ester (Kime) Tomes.
He was a life time resident of Washington County and served in the United
States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Pekin American
Legion Post #203 and of the South Liberty Church after being an elder at Bunker Hill Christian Church.
Jim married Bettie (Callaway) Tomes, who passed away in 1987.
He was a cabinet maker in Clarksville before opening and owning J & R
Cabinets for 30 plus years with his brother Roy.
He then retired from the United States Postal Service after 18 years.
In 1988 he married Georgia Evellyn (Tankersley) Tomes.
Survivors include:
Wife: Georgia Evellyn (Tankersley) Tomes
Daughter: Karol Tomes of Clarksville, Indiana;
Daughter: Kathy Tomes of Nashville, TN;
Son: Jim Tomes of North Carolina;
Stepson: Gregory Kennedy of Pekin, Indiana;
Stepdaughter: Beverly Kennedy of Pekin, Indiana.
He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Tomes, 1 granddaughter,
Jami (Tomes) Webb and a great granddaughter, Addison Hart.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday and 10 am to 1 pm Saturday at Dawalt
Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Saturday at Dawalt Funeral Home with Bro. John
Denny officiating followed by interment with full military honors at
Bunker Hill Cemetery outside of Salem.
