Harley D. Gilstrap, age 44 of Salem, Indiana passed away Friday. March 4, 2022 at 2:15 PM in his residence. Born December 13, 1977 in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of the late Galen Gilstrap and Leslie Helsel, who survives. He was a life resident of Washington County and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1996. One of his passions in high school was playing football for the Lions. He played defense with the team that won the 1994 Sectional and considered his teammates to be his band of brothers. On March 26, 2001, he married Meisha Becraft, who survives. Out of this union was born the love of Harley’s life, his son Broc. Harley was proud of the fact that Broc will be enlisting in the Navy this July. On June 24th, 2016 he married Trina Lawton, who preceded him in death on May 28, 2018. Harley was a carpenter and construction worker by trade. He was proud to point out the many bridges he helped build and construction projects he worked on throughout Indiana. He was a hard worker and could fix about anything and do anything he put his mind to. He loved riding and working on Harley Davidson motorcycles and trucks. His sanctuary in this life was working on the family farm. He was happiest on the farm taking care of the family’s horses and Scottish Highland cows. He was his Mom’s right hand man and will be deeply missed. Harley had a heart of gold and would help anyone that needed it. Harley is survived by his son Broc Gilstrap, his mother Leslie Helsel, his brother Waylon Gilstrap, sister Jessica Gilstrap and sister Kaitlyn Lamb. He also leaves behind his aunt Jessica Craig and his cousins and nephews and nieces in Omaha, Nebraska. His Aunt Tia and Uncle Ed Hatcher remain in Pekin.
