General G. Potter, age 86, of Salem, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, January 3rd at his residence.
He was born October 6th, 1937, in Bar Creek, Kentucky to Mack and Addie (Sams) Potter. He always had a great passion for the outdoors. He was always in the woods or outdoors when he could be. Whether it was gardening, deer, squirrel, rabbit, ginseng, mushrooms or asparagus hunting, he would be outside.
He was a loving husband and amazing father to his 6 children. He worked many jobs to support his family. He was a factory worker, carpenter, farm hand among a large list of other jobs he held in his lifetime. He retired from Tecumseh Engines in Salem. Even though he worked a lot, he still found the time to pass on his love of sports to his children and grandchildren. He loved to play softball and basketball in his youth.
He is survived by his 6 children: Marylin Sechrist (Jim) of Salem, Robert Potter of Salem, William Potter (Dawn) of Salem, Marletta Cripe (Rodney) of North Manchester, IN, Melody Atkinson (Shaun) of Salem and Brent Potter (Lindsey) of Salem; 2 sisters: Betty Jo Garriott of Salem and Zella Medley of Baxter, TN, 2 brothers: Charles Potter of Port Richey, Florida and Mack Potter of Carmel, IN. He will be missed by his 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Potter, parents Mack and Addie Potter, sister Ethel Conrad and brother Harvey Potter.
Memorial donations can be made to the Conway Cemetery Association
Visitation will be held at the Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem, Monday January 8th from 4-7 pm with services at 7.
