Obituary

Evelyn Ruth Emmert Pitcock died peacefully on Saturday morning September 17, at Salem Crossing with her loving son John at her side. She was 93.  Evelyn was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on August 25,1929 to Charlotta and R. H Emmert. She lived there until August 25th, 1945 when she married the love of her life Harley Pitcock and moved to Louisville Kentucky, where they had 4 children. They were married 67 years until Harley’s death in 2012. In 1962 the family moved to a farm in Salem, Indiana where they resided for many years before retiring to Ocala, Florida.

Evelyn was instrumental in helping manage the family farm, but the job she loved the most was that of caring Mother. God and family first were her stock and creed. No matter the time or place (South Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Chicago, Phoenix), if needed by one of her children, she was there in a flash with a great smile and infectious laugh ready to serve. Evelyn was a lifelong Christian and devoted and helpful member of various churches in whatever community she lived, teaching Sunday school, baking pies or cooking meals or helping in whatever capacity she could. Additionally, always a stylish dresser, she was a member of the Red hat Club for many years. She enjoyed reading, gambling and liked to travel. She and Harley attended the Navy reunion for 25 years held in various cities.

She leaves behind a slew of relatives and friends and her trademark giggle and twinkle in her eye will be sorely missed.

She is survived by son John (Judy), daughters Barbara Stratton (Harlan), Becki Etzler (Scott), and Charlotte Eaton. Grandchildren, Kim Henderson (Marc), Kori Pitcock (Andrea), Ambeur Deck, Lauren Stratton, Erin Etzler, Andrew Etzler and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harley, 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 on Thursday the 22nd at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem and the funeral service will be at Southern Hills church in Salem, Friday the 23rd at 10 a.m.
A reception with light refreshments will immediately following the service at the church.
