Carolyn Wetzel Obituary

Carolyn Anderson Wetzel, aged 73, was born on July 12, 1950, and passed away on December 31, 2023. She spent most of her life in Salem, Indiana, before moving to Bloomington, Indiana, in 2002.

Carolyn graduated from Salem High School in 1968. She served the community of Salem by delivering meals for the Senior Center for many years, followed by working at the Salem Crossing Nursing Home (formerly known as The Heritage House). Upon Moving to Bloomington to be closer to family, she worked in the Bloomington Hospital cafeteria until she retired.

A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, companion, and friend, Carolyn's life was committed to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Lloyd Anderson in 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Wetzel-Deiters, son-in-law Matt Deiters, grandson Ian Deiters, twin sister Marilyn Anderson Williams (Gene), and long-time companion Gary Hopkins. Carolyn considered Gary's family to be her family too, including his siblings Warren, Bill (Jane), Harvey, Ron (Sandy), and Darlene, children Jennifer Miller (Jason) and Jeremy Hopkins (Mandy), grandchildren Cody Hopkins (Brooke), Brianna Cunningham, Jaxson Hopkins, and Max Hopkins, and great-grandchildren.

Carolyn's legacy is one of love for her family and friends, and she held a special place in her heart for children and the elderly. She was passionate about spending time with family, attending school activities and sporting events of those she loved, and cheering for Bloomington South basketball and football, IU women's basketball, and Gary's brother Warren's hornet and modified race car events. She believed in Jesus Christ, prayed daily, and attended various churches throughout her lifetime, including the First Christian Church and New Hope United Methodist Church in Salem, Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, Indiana, and Victory Community Church in Bedford, Indiana.

Visitation will be from 10 am to 2 pm, and the funeral service at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Dawalt Funeral Home followed by burial services at Crown Hill Cemetery, all in Salem, Indiana.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Autism Society of America are welcomed. Carolyn's life reflected deep love and dedication to her family and compassion for children and the elderly that will be treasured in the memories of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love will continue to be in the hearts of those she touched.
