Byron Rex Miller was born on May 9th, 1947 to Aubra M. Miller and Virginia (Wible Tarr) Miller in the family farmhouse outside Campbellsburg, Indiana. The youngest of five children, Byron was known by his middle name Rex. He graduated in 1965 from Salem High School and later attended Indiana University. Shortly after graduating high school he married and the couple later went on to have 2 children. He passed away on Father’s Day, June 18th after suffering a massive stroke and lengthy hospital stay in Youngstown, Ohio.
He is survived by his 2 children Michaela (Miguel) Topalov of Sidney, Ohio, and Anthony Todd (Christine) Miller of Hudson, Ohio. His granddaughters Gabriella Elise and Juliana Christine Miller and grandson Paul Anthony Topalov will miss their Pap and the fun times they shared together. He is also survived by brother Ronald (Barbara McCracken) Miller, his sister Patricia (Jim) Thompson of Leesburg, Florida, brother-in-law Bill Johnson of Greenville, South Carolina, and his many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Rex in death are his parents, sister Jeneane (Miller) Johnson, Karen (Miller) Herrin, grandson Alexander Philip Topalov, and nephew Michael Johnson.
He lived in Evansville and Chandler, Indiana working in sales for Proctor & Gamble. He moved his family to Brighton, Michigan while working in sales for the Mead Corporation. Rex was very successful in his sales career and had a knack for building relationships with his customers. Mead noticed his talent and creativity, and recognized him by bringing him to the headquarters in Dayton, Ohio where he excelled in marketing. He was even on Good Morning America promoting the Trapper Keeper and led Mead national sales meetings. He successfully patented how school and office products were displayed with a device that kept products organized on the shelves. He left Mead and became the national director of the School and Home Office Products Association where he loved interacting with thought leaders and business heads of Fortune 500 Companies in school and office products. In his later years he worked in sales logistics for the trucking industry to keep himself busy, and moved to Parrish, Florida. Finally he moved back to Ohio, settling in Canfield to be near his children.
Rex was an independent in all ways. He was a staunch conservative and supported Christian values. Even after suffering his last stroke he wanted to make his own decisions about how he would live his life and strove to live independently until the end. He loved fine dining, fine wine, and fast cars. He loved seeing the complete restoration of his ’65 Chevelle and driving his Corvette around town with a guest in tow, and was proud of being told he was Tom Selleck’s twin.
He loved his family. He gave us all plenty to laugh about and never hesitated to show his love with a moustache kiss on the cheek and a big hug. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
