Melvin Howard Smith

   Melvin Howard Smith, age 91 of Campbellsburg, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at 6:11 am, in Baptist Health Floyd.
   Born March 8, 1927 in Campbellsburg, Indiana, he was the son of the late Burley B. and Blanche (Bundy) Smith.
   He retired in 1989 from the West Washington School System and was a former employee of the Monon Railroad for 20 years.  He was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, served in WW II as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy and had been a life resident of Campbellsburg.
   On March 3, 1949 he married Helen I. Shoults Smith, who passed away February 25, 1981.  On November 4, 1989 he married JoAnn (Lee) Smith, who survives.
   Also surviving are: 1 Son: Danny M. Smith of Campbellsburg;  1 Daughter: Melvia L. Smith of Campbellsburg;  5 Stepdaughters: Sonja Thompson of Campbellsburg, Tyronna King of Utah, Jackie Kendall and Tony King of Salem and Toby Jo Peacock of Austin;  2 Stepsons: Hank King of Salem and Pernell King of Greensburg, Indiana;  1 Sister: Carol Livesay of Salem;  16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
   He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Jeffrey Blackwell officiating, followed by interment at Claysville Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Thursday at Dawalt Funeral Home and 10 to 11 am Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
