Lee Ralph Cottongim, age 91, of Salem, went to be with his Lord on September 24th, 2017 at 9:45 p.m. at Baptist – Floyd Co Hospital.
   He was born February 18, 1926 in Clay County, Kentucky, the son of Minnie Brown and Joseph Cottongim.  On July 26, 1944 he entered into the military where he served in WW II in the European Theater in the U. S. Army were he rose to the rank of Supply Sergeant.  He was discharged from Camp Atterbury, June 24, 1946.  In 1948, he came to Washington County to help his uncle farm where he met Dorothy Louise Winslow.  On December 23, 1950, they were married by Esten Martin.  They were married 64 years before Dorothy passed in 2016.  He farmed and installed farm equipment with his father-in-law, Ralph Winslow.
    He was a member of the Canton Christian Church of Salem since 1973, where he had served on the board of trustees.  He helped organize the East Washington Water Corp. with Reed Howell, was a 4-H Leader of the Victory Farmers and Farmeretts in the late 60’s.
   He is survived by two daughter, Sara Cottongim (David) Day of Salem and Clara Cottongim of Corydon; three sons, Terry (Nancy) Cottongim, Kent (Terri) Cottongim and Larry (Sandy) Cottongim all of Salem;  two sisters, Lucy Amburgey and Lila Gentry of Lexington, Kentucky; one brother, Leon Cottongim of Rockville, Indiana;  nine grandkids,  Tiffany Cottongim Hoke, R. Keith (Susan) Day, Shaun Cottongim, Damon Day, Raven and Katelynn Cottongim all of Salem,  Brian (Anna) Hoyt of CA, Allisyn Gilstrap Timberlake of CT, Kyle Gilstrap of NY and five great-grandchildren; Haley, Easton, Bree, Adalyn and Starling. 
   He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Lewis Cottongim, Luther Cottongim, Leonard Cottongim and Lyle Cottongim.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at Dawalt Funeral Home.
   The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
      Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem.
