Gary M. Cleveland, age 77 of Salem, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at 10:35 pm, in his residence. He was at home with Hospice, surrounded by his family.
Born February 28, 1941 in Haubstadt, Indiana, he was the son of the late Earl M. and Lydia E. (Bertram) Cleveland.
Gary graduated Valedictorian of Tampico High School in 1959, before attending Ball State University and Hanover College.
He married Peggy (Sweany) Cleveland, Dec. 29, 1962.
He was a retired farmer and former employee of the U.S. Census Bureau. He was a baptized believer and attended the Mt. Tabor Christian Church.
Gary loved his family and was a good provider He worked hard and was generous, honest and witty. He enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching, flowers and nature. He also loved sports and traveling.
Gary was a member of the Salem Farmers Club, Indiana Farm Bureau, Washington Co. Pork Producers, was a West Washington Band Parent President and Washington County Conservation Farmer of the Year, 1991.
Survivors include: Wife: Peggy (Sweany) Cleveland; Son: Andrew (Cathy) Cleveland of Farmland, Indiana; 2 Daughters: Kara Cleveland of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elaine (Roger) Twitchell of Joplin, Missouri and Sister: Joan Sturgeon of Seymour, Indiana.
He is also survived by 6 grandchildren:

Tyler Bogue,
Eliza Twitchell,
Josiah Cleveland,
Elijah Cleveland.
Celebration of Life Service: 11:00 am Saturday April 7, 2018 at Dawalt Funeral Home with Tony Mendizabal officiating.
Visitation: 10:00 am Saturday until the time of the service.
Interment and committal will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
